Hi, I’m Becky, an artist and writer based in Derbyshire. I write about my life in what I hope is an honest and open way. I write about mental health, sobriety and simply trying to find my way in this world. Please subscribe to support my work and to read more of my posts.
Hi,
How are you?
It’s been a while since I’ve written anything of substance. Last time I wrote, I spoke of how my creative well had run dry. I thought taking a break would help it refill but it seems to have stayed empty. I don’t have any ideas about what to write to you.
So, I am trying a different tack - writing even though the well is empty and seeing what comes out. I thought a good thing to write about would be what I’ve been up to for the last few weeks.
Reading, Reading And More Reading
I’ve been reading a lot. I have been working my way through books on my bookshelf and seeing if there are any I don’t want anymore. I have taken a lot to charity shops but I have also found a new love for many.
I have actually filled in my book tracker so I have had to draw out an extra one in my bullet journal. Next year, I don’t think I will add the big plant. I only drew it in because I was certain I wouldn’t fill in such a big book tracker!
But here we are.
As I write, I have read 86 books which is not bad to say I only managed around 40 last year.
Good News From The Physio
I received good news from my physio. For those who are new here, I hurt my foot/tendon last June and I have been in physio for over a year.
I had my last physio appointment at the beginning of August and all is looking good. I need to continue doing strength exercises and stretches but it is much better.
I went on my first long walk in 14 months in August and it was lovely.
There is a part of me that’s still a bit dubious, a bit worried about going on long walks. I hurt myself in such a nothing kind of way and I am worried about it happening again. It has spurred me on to take better care of myself, which I will talk about in more detail in another letter, but I am still worried. Hopefully, this will fade as I walk more.
A slow, gentle Summer
I don’t really have much more to fill you in on. My Summer has been slow and gentle, exactly as I like it.
I am going to try and get back to writing more regularly so I get back in a rhythm with it. And hopefully, the simple act of writing will help the ideas flow more smoothly.
🌞 How has your Summer been?
Thank you so much for reading.
As always, if you enjoyed this letter or anything resonated, please let me know by replying to this email or, if you are on Substack, by giving it a like or leaving a comment. If you really enjoyed it, please share it or restack it so someone else might find it. Thank you. 🖤
Until next time, take care of yourself.

Becky

I love your book tracker!
Love reading your update, Becky. And love your book tracker! So much appreciation and admiration for how you’ve chosen to spend your summer. Gentle, with lots of reading, sounds perfect. Sending wishes for continued steadiness, ease, and healing.
